Should the United States Congress re-instate the ban of federal funding for embryonic stem cell research because it destroys human embryos before they have a chance at life and because the price of funding stem cell research is not worth its return and should be kept privately funded? Or should the United States Congress leave the current funding for embryonic stem cell research alone because it has potential to cure a multitude of diseases and it can expand the United States economy and create new jobs?

After analysis of the social and economic arguments, the arguments for keeping current funding for embryonic stem cell research seem to be stronger. The social arguments that it is unethical to destroy human embryos and the conflict of values approach are better arguments than the economic reasons of market failures. The social arguments made by those against the ban of funding are strong enough to equate the social reasons of those for the ban.

The economic arguments of those against the ban were much stronger than those of those for the ban. The potential for the government to not only gain their money back and make more off taxes but also advance scientific research in the process outweigh the market failures. Therefore, the social and economic arguments against the ban outweigh the arguments for the ban.
