Dear President Colvin:

Rabbi Peretz's dismissal has been a traumatic loss for many members of the Congregation.  Many of us have expressed individually our reaction to the decision of the Board - whether disbelief, dismay or anger.  Collectively, we have stated our concerns in the Community Open Letter that will be delivered to you.

We must now try to find a way to move forward.  To that end, we request that you call a Special Meeting of the Congregation pursuant to Article II, Section 2 of the Bylaws for the purpose of discussing the concerns and issues raised in the community open letter.  In particular, we would like the meeting to address:

  • The "new direction" for the Congregation to which various members of the Clergy have referred when questioned by congregants about Rabbi Peretz's dismissal.
  • The need for greater involvement of the members in decisions that affect their fundamental relationship with the Congregation.
  • How we begin healing the wounds that have been caused by the Board's dismissal of Rabbi Peretz.

We request that the membership meeting be called for 7:00pm on July 26, 27, 28 or 29th, 2010 at the Temple.

We also request that a copy of this letter and the Community Open Letter that we will provide to you be included with the meeting notice so that all members of the Congregation can understand our concerns and the purpose of the meeting.

Sincerely,

Signatures

Enough with the secrecy. Its time to come clean about why this happened.

This whole thing has been handled so poorly. Just give us a meeting so we can actually move on.

Still in shock over this. We have a right to know what is going on with our leadership.

The board needs to listen to the members. We are the ones who make up this synagogue. Open meeting now.

The lack of transparency is really hurtful. Rabbi Peretz gave so much to this place and he was let go without a real explanation. Totally unacceptable.
