EMA LETS MAKE IT FAIR
I am sure that you have all heard of EMA (education maintenance allowance). Well if you havenât I will tell you about this unfair scheme. Basically for students who go to college who come from a home were the household income is lower than £30,810 you are able to get up to £30 per week. Here are the official figures: up to £20,817 per year = £30 per week £20,818 - £25,521 per year = £20 a week £25,522 - £30,810 per year = £10 a week more than £30,810 per year = no entitlement to EMA Now I personally know students who are getting the £30 per week EMA and are in no way spending it on what it should be. However I suppose it is their choice on what they spend it on, but the point I am making is that other students like me who are working and even some who are not and are not getting EMA are struggling to get to college. For example I am just about earning enough to cover a week at college taking into consideration bus fair or petrol if I go in the car also things like food and drink, more importantly essential things like folders and books. Now if your parents earn £30,810 it is because they are working hard so why should you as a student be punished for that. What the government doesn't see is that a lot of that money goes on bills and things like that, and at the end of the day it your choice to go to college so why should it go off your Parent or Guardian's income. Now I believe that if some people can get EMA then everyone should be able to so who is with me sign this petition
