Say No to Paved Paths in Elm Grove
We, the undersigned, as residents of Elm Grove, wish to register our objections to the plan being embarked upon by the Village of Elm Grove to construct a paved pathway network in the village with cost estimates for the initial Juneau Boulevard phase exceeding $300,000. We believe the plan is unsupportable on the following grounds: 1. Public Safety: The purported basis for constructing the initial pathway along Juneau Boulevard is safety, yet the available village police department records reveal no history of accidents involving vehicles with pedestrians or cyclists. Village efforts should instead focus on reducing the speed of drivers. 2. Environmental: The creation of a six foot swath with an asphalt path will cause the elimination of untold mature trees and green space while adding to the run off from impervious surfaces. 3. Accountability to Taxpayers: Village government ought not seriously impair the right-of-way immediately adjacent to private property and spend $300,000+ without a clear consensus of support from village taxpayers. We call upon the Village Board of trustees to reject this misguided plan. Please show your support by signing in.
