eliminate the static
This petition is a plea to management here at DTW to improve our work environment by
reducing the noise levels, thus reducing the stress in our everyday work space.
Basically, eliminate the autoplay announcements in the terminal, set and implement guidelines for those using podium announcement system and insure the technology is working properly.
A survey of ATW employees on whether light backround music would reduce stress
might be suggested, also.
By signing this petition we are asking our management to help its work force attain
a healthier work life - thus more productivity
According to the Delta Health Flyer (issue 62 dec 2012):
• Seventy-five percent of adults reported
experiencing moderate to high levels of
stress in the past month and nearly half
reported that their stress has increased in
the past year.
• Forty-eight percent said stress has a
negative impact on their personal and
professional life.
• Annually, stress costs employers $300
billion in stress-related healthcare and
missed work.

Stress, NY — April 6, 2012
The following information corresponds to a report from The Franklin Institute on stress which says:
Not just loud
or sudden noises provoke a stress response.
Chronic
low-level noise also negatively influences the brain
and behavior. Whether from the road or in the office,
low-intensity noise has a subtle yet insidious effect
on our health and well-being.
Noise at home
or school can affect children's ability to learn. Compared
to kids from quieter neighborhoods, children living
near airports or busy highways tend to have lower reading
scores and develop language skills more slowly. Psychiatric
hospitalizations are higher in noisy communities. Bad
moods, lack of concentration, fatigue, and poor work
performance can result from continual exposure to unpleasant
noise.According
to Dr. Alice H. Suter, an audiologist at the National
Institute for Occupational Safety and Health: "Included
in noise-related problems are high blood pressure,
peptic ulcers, cardiovascular deaths, strokes, suicides,
degradation of the immune system, and impairment of
learning. Noise is also associated with an increase
in aggression and a decrease in cooperation."
