As of 2013, New York spent $19,076 per student for education. This is the highest in the nation. In fact new York has spent more dollars per student that any other state for the last seven years. The cost per student in 2011 was $13,267. In two years, NYS education spending increased by 69%.

In 2011, NYS cooked up a program known as the GAP Elimination Adjustment program. This program has reduced state funding by millions to 100s of New York Schools already strapped by salary and pension shortfalls.

So if spending has risen over 30 billion per dollars over the last three years, then why are our schools being shortchanged by the state ?

This program has cost our little school (Chenango Forks - broome county) 7.5 million dollars in funding in the last three years. The school has cut staff to the bone, meanwhile taxpayers see yearly tax hikes. The 013/14 Gap adjustment will remove another 2.5 million from our school. Enough is enough. We are simply two or three budgets away from being a school in a third world county. Where is our cut of the 69% education spending increase ?

Please sign this petition to end the GAP Elimination Adjustment program. New York has stolen $7.5 million from us already. Stop this for good.
