Electrify the Southern Highlands Line

As a semi-regular user of Train services from Goulburn to Sydney, I often elect to drive due to the infrequent Train service and unreliability of the fleet. With the obvious increase in Home dwellings along this line and a pressing need to reduce Carbon emissions, I believe action taken in the near term to commence electrification of the Southern Highlands line will place the State in a better position to deal with the Climate Threat and encourage more people to utilise the services thereby reducing congestion on Sydney Road infrastructure.

Electrification of regional rail lines is an important investment in the future. The economic, social and environmental benefits are significant.

Our Family wanted to move to the southern highlands but when we found out about the poor train services we decided against. Electrification on this line is now urgent.

I believe that this line should get electrified as well as develop a fast rail link from this line to the South Coast line in order to open up the two lines and to create a new precinct in Wollongong as well as in the southern Highlands which would create more communities where needed around the southern district therefore making affordable housing and public housing available for NSW and Sydney.

It can be a little boring with Endeavours only. We can electrify this line up to Moss Vale from Macarthur so that we can see the Mariyungs on that line too.

This is the worst rail service in Australia. International visitors must laugh at us. Pull your fingers out and fix it.

Long overdue

improvements should already be underway, not relying on petitions. Long overdue there is no initiative to use public transport. without this change residents have no alternative to drive, creating further pressures on our already deficient roads

Makes sense to allow people moving to menangle to commute

This should have been done decades ago.

Dear Decision Makers, Queensland is electrifying its freight lines, whilst those passengers using the antiquated Southern Highlands Line (SHL) cannot enjoy clean, quiet and more reliable electric passenger services. Such a service, if built, would increase paying passenger demand, reduce Australia's reliance on imported oil with the associated strategic uncertainty, assist with our trade balance, take pressure of our overloaded roads, and can operate on green energy as the nation transitions to renewables. All whilst improving quality of life for its patrons. Japan can teach us much about running such a service. There is an electric passenger service from Tokyo to the Hakuba ski fields. A most pleasant trip, and not a bullet train. Electrification of the SHL is long overdue, especially with the massive infrastructure spend that is ongoing in NSW. The lack of action reflects poorly on politics and transport planners alike. It is disheartening to know that electrification of this line has not begun by 2023. Sincerely Steven Parker

I don't live in the Southern Highlands or Southern Tablelands as this line should have been electrified back in the 1980s during the same period the Illawarra and Newcastle lines were electrified. This country shouldn't even be using diesel trains in this day of age where the rest of the world are using electric trains. I'd also like to see the Sydney to Melbourne line electrified as well. We are way behind the rest of the world.

Electrify to one station every 3 years heading south

It’s disgracful that the people attached to the Southern Highlands Line are treated like rubbish Every other intercity line out of Sydney is electrified fully or to some extent its time for commuters at Moss Vale and as far as Goulburn and Canberra are treated better than they currently are. Infrequent Service past Moss Vale and trains that continually break. It’s time for action electrofy the the Southern Highlands Line NOW!

The Southern Highlands line does need a better service from Central to Goulburn then onto Canberra. Electrifying the line will increase tourism, booat the economy in the region and make Sydney and the highlands more acessible and make Canberra more acessible too.

The Southern Highlands has many residents forced to drive to Campbelltown and beyond to get a train to make the travel time to Sydney bearable.
