According to Hertfordshire County Council there is a huge shortfall of care facilities for the elderly in St Albans and that if something isn’t done soon, the problem will get worse.

Newlyn Developments wants to build elderly care facilities on land to the west of Chiswell Green, adjacent to Butterfly World, but last week councillors proposed to remove the site from the District’s draft development plan (the ‘Core Strategy’).

There are four reasons for signing the petition:

1. There is a serious shortage of care facilities for the elderly in St Albans and this is only getting worse.

2. Our proposals are for elderly care / retirement facilities rather than traditional housing.

3. The council’s own planning officers have recommended the site be identified for care facilities for the elderly

4. In the current economic climate, the development provides essential infrastructure at no cost to the public purse.

OUR PETITION

We, the undersigned, believe that St Albans District Council has a responsibility to plan for the housing and care of elderly people, and that something needs to be done to provide appropriate accommodation for St Albans residents, therefore we support the identification of land at Chiswell Green for elderly care and extra care facilities.
