Dear Early Learning Center (ELC) Board of Directors and Teachers,

The ELC parent community has raised serious concerns regarding the current ELC winter school closure policy which has departed from past precedents and has inflicted undue hardship on ELC student households without notice. Students enrolled in the 2018-19 school year during the summer of 2018 under the assumption that weather-related school closure decisionswould not substantially differ from the policies of the 2017-18 school year which ensured that ELC would follow the direction of the Portsmouth Public Schools (PPS) District Superintendent by opening at the same time as the District’s elementary schools during delayed openings and closing for full-days as determined by the PPS Superintendent. Additionally, the ELC parent community has requested that all school hours lost due to weather-related closures be proportionally rescheduled at the close of the regularly scheduled school year for both part-time and full-time students.

The ELC parent community values the leadership of the Board of Directors and is hopeful that these policy issues be resolved within 5 business days to the benefit of the student’s education and well-being.
