Save the Edgewater High School Latin Program
On Tuesday, September 20, 2011, it was announced that the Edgewater High School Latin program would be discontinued due to budgetary constraints. We believe that discontinuing the Edgewater High school Latin program denies students the following opportunities: Students who take Latin score higher on the SAT than students taking other or no languages (1). Latin helps prepare students for college and their careers (2). Colleges and universities hold Latin students in a higher regard, and they add on an extra “weight” when they see Latin on a student’s transcript (3). We, the undersigned, request that the Edgewater High School Latin program, which includes Latin I, Latin II, Latin III, AP Vergil, and Latin V, to continue at said school.
