Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and access to necessary health care

We definitely need Doctors that have experience with treating EDS as it's so Important to save life's of some Wonderful people

The Health Care system in Ontario is deterioriting. You are my MP and gave you my vote And I am truly disappointed.

We definitely need to re-evaluate the medically necessary and unnecessary criteria to make sure that any surgery or medical intervention that can give back a minute of quality to someone's life is approved regardless of the cost.

As a fellow EDS patient I too wish to see better access to Care and Educated/Trainned physicians who can provide the proper care for our community.

I am still learning about EDS but have a friend with this terrible syndrome and can see the pain and dispear it causes. These healthy, happy lives stripped away....

I agree with Dr. Gutstein and hope that there can be a solution for this gap in service. There is always a risk when only one physician is able to provide necessary medical treatment to a population of Canadians. The challenges highlighted by the situation involving Dr. Shamji are case in point. I strongly urge the MOH to fund out of province treatment for patients that require neurosurgery that is not available in Ontario. Even if this means sending patients to the USA for this treatment. Ideally local neurosurgeons need to be supported to gain the knowledge and expertise to offer these unique and medically necessary treatments locally. All Canadians deserve to have the best medical care regardless of their disease. If the care can't be given in Canada then it should be covered out of country.

Dr. Hoskins, the whole point behind socialized medicine is to support individuals like Adena. I cannot conceive of a Liberal government not "getting" this. Either bring the needed expertise here, or send Adena to where it is available. There is no doubt in my mind that if this was YOUR daughter, she would have already received treatment.

The ONE neurosurgeon in all of Canada is now unavailable.. Time to cover out of country care for EDS. Better yet enforce awareness and training of new and existing physicians. The typical medical school curriculum spends less than a day learning about ALL connective tissue disorders.

Hello My name is Lili Mousavi, I have chiari and EDS, DR. Shamji had given me hope again. We need awareness and help.

We need action now not promises.

I am a patient of dr Shamji and have had two surgeries this year alone. One was a critical spinal cord decompression (myelopathy) and no other neurosurgeon could accept the criticall placed for me. He flew back into the country to save my life. I only hope the ministry will step up and ensure we have MORE THAN ONE neurosurgeon available in the future who can help this medically complicated group, before more of us end up with permanent spinal cord or brain damage, or more die in ERs from complications of compression.

I know a few in the EDS Ottawa community that have travelled to the US to have these costly surgeries. It needs to be offered in Canada.

All patients with this Syndrome should have access to their clinical and medical needs.
