Public education should be free across the board. The budget should cover for textbooks in school - children SHOULD be able to KEEP those textbooks. That's what we pay TAXES for!!!

It's very sad to know that the our education system is being tax when education should be given freely to every child desiring a future career path hence improving our beautiful country to higher heights. Education shouldn't be taxed it's very unfair to those parents who can't afford to give their children(our future generation) an education .

As a critical social good, education is necessary for the social and economic development of any country. Guyana being a member of the UNDHR and many other international human rights treaties is currently in gross violation of its commitment to provide free, accessible primary education, and accessible and affordable secondary and tertiary education. Additionally having committed to the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, this action is counterproductive towards that end and further undermines the development of the country . While the government provides education at a minimal cost ( which is arguable) the quality of education has been substandard and that's the underlying reason that parents have resorted to private provision. As a bedrock social rights, education should not attract taxes!

In 2016, private schools accounted for more than 35% passes at the CSEC examinations though their percentage in the overall high school population is far less than 35%. This is highly commendable, so the state should provide maximum assistance, rather than penalizing them for their success.

Honestly this is just a foolish way of thinking. Why would you impose taxes on education?? Oh come on education is one of the main key for development in our country. So now our government was saying that there all for the youths and now there are adding taxes on education. This is just killing ppl more. How can our country progresses like this? It just nonsense. EDUCATION shouldn't have taxes impose to it. This is just feeding more money to our government official pocket. There are only interested in fulling there pocket with more money while we the guyanese people are struggling for a living and keep getting more burdens from this government. There don't care for our youths nor the guyanese ppl there are only interested to fulfilling their personal interest . Imagine a parent who is struggling to provide income for there children to attend school will have a call saying that school fees will raise because there is 14% vat added to it!!! What will that parents do now?
How can that benefit people of guyana?

Not everyone can afford private education but parents give their all for their children education and struggle already to do so, VAT on private education will only leave the rich to be educated to the best and the struggling will be forced to let go of the future they are trying so hard already to work towards...
