Education is the key to a country's development and parents who make the sacrifice so their children can have a higher standard of education should not be burden with this additional cost.

I have a son and I am very much proud of him attending a private school, because when the day comes I know that he's safe it's very costly to send him yes but to add vat will make it more difficult for me. His grades are excellent teachers are wonderful with the children. Why do this to parents and children we need them they are our future. No duty free for vehicles add your 14 %vat to them

I'm a single parent taking care of two boys. We're sacrificing many necessities so that they can have a good education. Our government needs to invest in our teachers and children to bring public schools up to par with the private schools but shouldn't force private schools to foot the bill.

This is not a way to take in 2017. Find other means to raise revenue. Allow Guyana to have an efuvated society. The necessity of education cannot be over-stated. Education is one of the basic needs of human being. It is also essential for any kind of development. The purpose of education is to enlighten the individual and develop his/her capacity to the limit. It helps us distinguish between right and wrong. It enables us to make the right choices in life and to perform our duties properly. It ennobles our mind and refines our sensibility. In this way education can really remove the darkness of ignorance. Besides, education broadens our outlook. It promotes humanity and universal brotherhood. Thus education promotes understanding among people of all climes. Education can be used as catalyst for a change for the better. Education provides us with the knowledge of health. A struggling Guyana needs to Vat on a basic human right. Even businesses are struggling to make ends meet, now to have them pay vat to the right to have your child educated.

The imposition of the 14% VAT on private schools however will, of course, impact very heavily on the children and youth attending those schools. For some, the perception is that anyone who attends a private school must be wealthy. That perception may be true for a certain percentage but, for the majority, attendance at such schools often represents a real sacrifice by a family member.A tax on education is surely not the path to take in 2017.

In a democatic nation....the government should not dictate where we as parent send our children. Parents need the best for their children and if we choose to send our chikdren to a private school because we do not have the trust we should in the public schools, it is not politically correct for you to say that we can afford it and hence we can afford to pay the VAT....it is more correct if you say...we are the working class people who are working our asses to give our children the best we could. Also, this government need to realize that we the employees in the private sector is a high target for taxes. Why are you punishing us for not wanting to live in poverty.

The only hope for Guyana moving forward is an educated, motivated pool of youth who see Guyana as theirs. This new tax does nothing to further that vision
