In the state of Tennessee, (and many other states) if you are under the age of 5 and your birthday is AFTER the beginning of September, you must wait a whole year before entering Kindergarten. My 4 year old went to Pre school and we were told she is ready for kindergarten. She knows her numbers, letters, some sign language, some Spanish, and she can write her name. This petition is to bring about a change to the education laws of Tennessee. We should be able to let her TEST into kindergarten. But instead we are forced to hold her back so by the time she gets into school she will NOT be challenged and get bored. The goal with education is supposed to be to teach, prepare and challenge our people so that they can succeed and lead the way for the next generation. how can we sit back and let all the children out there that love to learn fall through the cracks and be standardized because of their age?
