Love to see Triple A baseball. But American Association would be a good start. However, the City of Edmonton needs to promote baseball... not just hockey.

I'm a 38 year old farm boy. Born and raised just a short drive north of Edmonton. I remember my first wide eyed trip to John Duecy park to watch the Trappers. It was old building by then, soon to be replaced by Telus field. But all the creaks and cracks of that old grandstand didn't take away from the lively atmosphere inside. I remember watching future MLB players giving their all at Telus field during their time in AAA. I stopped by Telus Field last year to watch some junior baseball and I was saddened by how low the love for higher levels of baseball seems to have fallen in this city. There was no front gate admission, the owners of Telus field would only open a back entrance to the stands that was littered and full of weedy overgrowth. I wondered if what we were doing was even legal. The stands were open but the concourse was closed off. This once beautiful building is now is a very sad state of appearance. It's troubling, for one doesn't have to travel very far in this province to find baseball alive and well and thriving. Take a trip down to Okotoks and watch the Dawgs play and I'm sure you'll think, "This is great! Why can't we have this in Edmonton?" I would love to take my son and my nephews to a big league park someday. I would love to take them to a small league park this year and next year and the many years after that but sadly... there are no teams playing in Edmonton's small league park... I'm starting to lose faith that there ever will be.

Edmonton is a sports town and has proven to support pro baseball. The Edmonton Trappers were exciting and the baseball field was a great place to be. In the river valley, enjoying a ball game, a dog and a beer.
