El Camino Real Charter High School, Concert Band & Music Program
As parents, we are concerned that music students are NOT being offered MORE opportunities as stated in El Camino's charter document. In fact, by cutting the Concert Band program, ECR students are being offered LESS opportunities. We demand the return of the Concert Band class and that music students be offered the same comprehensive, sequential, and rigorous program of instruction taught by certified and qualified teachers that ECRCHS offers to other academic and athletic disciplines. The current music program not only hinders current ECR music students in preparing for music at the college level, it is also eliminating the bridge between the high school and middle school programs.
The follow is from page 8 on the El Camino Real Charter Document:
I. INTRODUCTION AND FOUNDING GROUP/CONSULTANTS
A. Introduction
We at ECR would like to convert to charter to further develop academic standards and opportunities on campus for all learners at varied levels. We would like to have more control over governance and curriculumso that students may find more opportunities to excel in academics, athletics, and extracurricular activities. We desire that they gain skills that will prepare them for post-secondary college and career options. We want to operate efficiently and be responsible to our unique student body and parents. We want to introduce more technology into the curriculum and school site so that communication is efficient and seamless. In order to achieve such enhancement and give our students more individual support we shall lower classes sizes and increase our support staff. We would like to promote the six pillars of character in our students encouraging civic responsibility and personal growth.
