please let these caretakers take care of their family during this hard time. Especially if it's a private school, you know most of these parents have the time and resources to look after their children while the people they usually depend on do not

This pandemic showed this even more the RECEs not in schools got such hard turn out compared to the higher paid RECEs in schools. We are not respected or treated fairly with really low wages and high stressors and responsibilities we deserve to be treated fairly and the same

ECE workers are asked to do so much with very little guarantee that they will benefit from their work. We are teachers, not babysitters. We are tasked with protecting your child during emergencies, looking after their mental and physical health, teach them conflict resolution skills that many of their parents seem to lack, and hopefully teach your children how to be decent humans. We are required to do many hours of continuing education every year. The absolute least you could do is show us that we matter. Pay us a living wage. Give us paid sick time. Spend a day in our classrooms with us. We know our value as human and as employees, you should too.

Sad that minimum wage places like hot topic are paying their employes but we arent appreciated at all.

Having worked in the ECE sector for four years before transferring to the public school sector, it is shocking to experience the contrast in terms of employee benefits and union protection. At best, ECE should not be in the hands of the corporate sector (concern for profit margins will inevitably always override concerns for safety of children and employees) but at the very least, a union is necessary to challenge policies which only serve to benefit the 1% within the corporate structure.
