Early Childhood Educators are professionals who hold a high level of expertise and knowledge. They have a degree or diploma and are paid substantially less than their peers who are teaching in kindergartens. Most are still making close to minimum wage. This is unacceptable and we as Early Childhood Educators will not stand to be taken advantage of anymore. We have one of the most important jobs in the world, shaping the minds and overall well being of children in their formative years. The quality of ECE for children depends on having skilled and qualified educators. Some ECEs are in a union currently, almost all of us pay membership dues to the college of Early Childhood Educators (due to low wages, and high membership cost some people were unable to hold onto their title of RECE/ECE) this is not helping us, and not right. We need to be united under one unizioned front.

If you would like to better the quality of pay and rights of ECE’s please sign this petition so that we can organize a new union together.

We are undervalued pay at minimum wage is insulting. We can earn more working fast food or at a grocery store with less hassle and responsibility. Our passion for teaching keeps us in the field.

I have worked for corporate, for-profit centres and the employees are terribly exploited and the children do not receive quality care because all the company cares about is profit!!! This needs to stop!

RECE here. The first 5 years of life are so important to the development of humans. We are shaping who these children will become, and yet we are paid so little and given so little consideration and respect. We deserve so much more.

It’s about time ECE have a voice. This crisis shows us that we are undervalued, there is nobody to speak up for us. Teachers have it right with their strong unions. We need to be one to move this profession forward.

I am so glad to see ECE’s finally uniting and forming a union!! I stepped out of the field 5 years ago after 25 years because I didn’t want to get burn out. Low pay and high annual fees(that should have been grandfathered in!!) -it was just too much. I fully support all my fellow ECE’s!!

It is so wrong that RECEs make so very little above minimum wage, yet have College fees on par with teachers; must pay for their on-going police checks and first aid training; and are at the whim of the current government to enhance their wages to a rate that still has no correlation to their responsibilities.

Our job as ECEs is key in helping children develop the foundations for life and more complex learning skills. Therefore, we need that recognition by getting better work conditions, wages increase, and benefits.
