Hi, I’m Paulo Delgado and I encourage you to sign this, my new petition, which I hope will allow you the signer more flexibility in who you can elect as your student leaders. It will also give you the power to run for student office without having been in student congress for a year. The gist of this is that right now you, the student, are not allowed to run for student office unless you have been in Student Congress for a year. Many people believe that if the elections were opened up to everyone, then it would just be a popularity contest. Well, I believe that it might as well be an open popularity contest. The composition of the Student Congresses hasn’t changed much over the years. The rule in place now causes the old people to get elected again and again. By signing this petition, you can help level the playing field and allow people who do not yet have their voices heard a chance at having their voices heard. You can also give yourself and others a chance to run for office. Requests: 1. A free open election where everyone is eligible to run as long as they fill out the form. 2. An open dialogue about this petition that creates a compromise for a better election process. Addendum: I believe in order to run for office someone who has not been in student congress must gather at least 50 signatures of fellow students in order to run. This would help show that they have the dedication necessary to carry an office If this sounds good to you please sign it and lend your voice to the cause.
