We, the undersigned, ask NZ Post to reconsider its decision to remove postal services from Easts at Makaraka, effective 12 May 2026. This store provides an important and well-used service to the local community, including residents, rural delivery customers, farmers, contractors, small businesses, and those who rely on convenient access to postal services as part of their daily routines. While NZ Post has advised that alternative services are available within 4-6 kilometers, distance alone does not reflect accessibility. For many in our community, particularly those travelling from rural areas, managing work commitments, or with limited mobility, this location is the most practical and efficient option. Although officially classified as an urban area, East's Outdoor Work & Leisure sits on the boundary of town, with rural delivery addresses beginning nearby. In practice, this functions as a key service point for surrounding rural communities. We believe this reality has not been adequately reflected in the decision making process. The removal of services from this location will reduce convenience, increase travel time, and place added pressure on other outlets. It will disproportionately affect those who rely on combining errands in one location.

We respectfully request that NZ Post:

  • Reconsider the decision to remove postal services from this location
  • Review the classification of this area in the context of how the community actually uses it
  • Take into account the real-world impact on rural and local customers
  • Engage directly with the community before finalising this decision

By signing this petition, we confirm: Whether we support retaining NZ Post services at this location How the removal of these services would affect us
