We are a group of Egyptian academics that do not represent any particular organization or group. We come from diverse backgrounds, hold different views, and have varied experiences. We are united by our love for Egypt and our dream of freedom for our people.

Our prayers are with our people that have finally taken to the streets of Egypt to express their frustrations with decades of oppression and corruption. We want to send a clear message of solidarity to our people, and to all that are concerned with the affairs of the country.

There is only one way forward. The Egyptian people have the right to choose their own government. Mr. Mubarak has to leave. We reject any attempt by Mr. Mubarak, any remnant of his regime, or any other source to impose a new dictatorship on the people of Egypt. What is needed is a national unity government that presides for a short transitional period followed by fair and free elections of a new Parliament and Consultative Assembly, and a new President. Safeguards must be put in place to assure the establishment of a democratic state that protects the universal human rights of every citizen, irrespective of religion, color, race, or opinions.
