Hey everyone, I'm here today to talk about something that's been bothering a lot of us – the strict e-bike and e-scooter laws here in Western Australia.

I'm sure many of you have seen or even experienced firsthand how the police are targeting students at schools, impounding e-bikes and e-scooters. In 2022, I bought a Segway Ninebot G30 Max. It was a dream having my own e-scooter, riding around with friends and having fun without worrying about cops fining me for going 25kmh or impounding it. To this day The Government is allowing retail stores to sell scooters that go 90kmh+, like Scooter Hut.

I understand the need for rules to keep everyone safe, but the current laws are way too harsh. Kids are getting expensive e-bikes as gifts from their parents, only to have them confiscated. Yes, a small percentage of riders might be doing the wrong thing – swerving around cars, going 50 on the footpath, or even riding on the wrong side of the road.

But the police can't assume that all riders are like that. We understand that the law can't remove every single e-bike and e-scooter law out there but at least make them slightly less strict. Like max speed 40kmh and 1000w motor only on shared paths and 25kmh on footpaths. We need to find a better balance. This is why I started a petition to make these laws less strict, so everyone can enjoy e-bikes and e-scooters without constant fear of getting them impounded.
