Residents of East 5th Street and the Vicinity Demand Traffic Enforcement, and Better and Safer Conditions

Vehicles (many commercial) going south on e 5 making a left onto Caton, turn without regard for pedestrians. Many of which are the children and families that walk to and from Greenwood Playground and P.S. 130. Please enforce the rules of the road at this corner for the safety of our residents, young and old.

I fully support this petition. There are trucks and cars speeding and honking their horns at all times of the day and night. Even when I cross on E. 5th and Caton on the green light, cars honk at the cars ahead of them. Just today, I almost got hit by a car that sped making a left turn onto Caton from E. 5th. The first car stopped and the one behind tried to go around him and almost hit me and my dog. Also, consider time frame when huge trucks are allowed on Caton. I hear them speeding at night and blow their ridiculously loud horns.

Do something before someone is seriously hurt

With Greenwood Playground, PS 130, and the Windsor Terrace Library, there are children and families everywhere on this block. Please enforce the laws to keep our children safe!

As a resident of this block I am disgusted at seeing trucks and other large commercial vehicles flagrant disregard to posted signs prohibiting them from using this exit / block. I am also the father to a new baby who will grow up on this block. This should be a quiet residential block where he can safely cross the street at the intersection. But even I am concerned myself when crossing when I see cars constantly racing to beat the light. We are not asking for any new rules/laws to be passed. We are only asking that you enforce the current ones. Thank you.

Please also enforce the stop sign at the exit of ramp.

Additionally, due to excessive traffic at this exit, cars BACK UP from E 5th street, through the pedestrian crosswalk next to the expressway crosswalk, to Greenwood Avenue. This is extremely dangerous to children and all.

They should also crack down on cars that back up off the exit to get on Greenwood Avenue.

I am a concerned resident & my child attends the Brooklyn Prospect Charter school. I have serious concerns about the commercial traffic, speeding & risks in this area which need to be resolved.

We have letters showing we have been fighting this issue for approximately 40 years with no results concerning the trucks that do damage to our property. Many times while sitting in the living room we can feel our homes shake as a result of the heavy trucks that are disobeying the "No trucks" signs. There should be a light that gives tickets to all who keep disobeying the "no trucks" signs.

I would like to also add that during afternoon rush hour there are often cars moving past the stop sign on E 5th /Prospect Expwy off ramp and then driving in reverse to turn onto Greenwood Ave in front of Little Toninos Pizza to avoid waiting at the light at E 5th and Ft Hamilton Pkwy. This is incredibly dangerous. My children and I have almost been struck twice while in the crosswalk by cars driving in reverse.

The quality of life has deteriorated on East 5th Street rapidly during the last 5-8 years!
