Purple Radio is an hugely important asset to Durham Students' Union and yet is consistently overlooked. The station - which is extremely expensive to run yet is being funded out of students' pockets - works tirelessly to give students opportunities that they are not afforded in other universities, and supports the Union in all its campaigns, reaching out to a very diverse cross-section of the student body and giving the Union free advertising in the process. The Union's neglect of its students is shambolic.

The support Purple Radio receives from Durham SU, an organisation which claims to work for the students, is very poor compared to what other university radio stations receive from their Students’ Unions. Having been in charge of Purple Radio in October 2012 when the opening hours were initially cut we made the Durham SU aware of the issues this caused us. Despite having this conversation they have gone ahead with a decision which they know will cause us issues without any consultation with the station. The are cutting back a service very well used by students and one which also works for students. Durham SU claims to constantly know about Purple Radio’s needs but time and time again it proves it is clueless and does not and can not currently support the station. I believe that Durham SU needs to learn how this affects the station and this is just the start it needs.

The Durham Students' Union gives Durham University a bad name. It fails to listen to any of the student body and fears confronting the University body. It was crap under Dallas, now it's crap under Slavin.
