
Save Duquesne Men's Swimming


WHEREAS ... On January 25, 2010, the Administration of Duquesne University announced plans to end its sponsorship of four varsity teams including men’s swimming. WHEREAS ...The Duquesne mission statement asserts that
serving students – through commitment to excellence in liberal and professional
education, through profound concern for moral and spiritual values, through the
maintenance of an ecumenical atmosphere open to diversity, and through service to the
Church, the community, the nation, and the world.
WHEREAS …The men’s swimming team has consistently been successful both
academically and athletically.
We, the undersigned, request:
1. That the Administration open and continue communication with the men’s swim team, alumni
board, and parent association in order to develop a plan to reinstate the swim
team.
2. That the men’s swim team be granted a reprieve of three years to allow time to
establish an endowment that would maintain this program in the future.
3. That the University support the swim team by allowing the use of campus
facilities in their fundraising efforts.
4. That the Board of Trustees define the relationship between the goal of Duquesne
Athletics on campus and the Universities Mission Statement.
