Duns Food Bank is entirely reliant on volunteers and delivers food and toiletries to clients throughout Berwickshire (west of the A1 corridor). The Food Bank is facing unprecedented levels of demand and, as a result, has had to move to larger, improved premises at 15 Murray Street, Duns. This new setting will enable us to move away from the ‘traditional’ food bank approach and a new organisation ‘Duns Fair Share’ (DFS) has been established. DFS will open a Community Larder and Social Café at 15 Murray Street. The Larder will be open to everyone and will place emphasis on making good use of surplus food from supermarkets and other local businesses. The Social Café will act as a warm hub in winter, will provide food and drinks for a nominal fee, and will help direct people in Duns to organisations that can help with a range of issues including energy/heating, clothing, money and health.
Duns Fair Share would like to buy the premises at 15 Murray Street so that all of the above can be offered on a permanent basis in Duns. We are applying to the Scottish Land Fund for support and a key requirement is that we must demonstrate the population of Duns is supportive of the initiative. I have spent my mornings at the new premises watching the work begin and thinking about how many families in Berwickshire rely on this space. Your comments show me that I am far from alone in wanting to secure this hub for our community permanently.

Buying 15 Murray Street for this community support be a significant benefit to the people of Duns and the surrounding rural area. Its location is perfect for the Foodbank and Social Cafe and Community Larder work.
Sad but necessary this is a haven for those in need. We are fortunate to have volunteers who work hard for the community of Duns and district.
There is a real need for the Duns food bank to expand into Duns Fair Share as more & more people in the area are struggling financially to feed themselves & their families
I personally think this would be a great achievement to help the people of Duns. To have some where hot , cosy, relaxed , friendly in Duns as some folk in winter time can't afford heating. So this would give them some place to sit read there paper have a hot drink. In a friendly cosy place
Having seen the success of the Reston & Auchencrow Community Larder I fully support this project.

Great initiative by a local community group responding to the needs of our small, rural community. As a local councillor, and resident, I’m entirely supportive of the proposal as it is clearly a well thought-out plan to deliver for our community, to help folk, save waste, create engagement and bring more community activity to a small town
