Dear Nigel Travis,

We at Phoenixville Area High School implore you to start reconsidering your sourcing options of the coffee beans that comprise your products. On your site, it currently states that you are “committed” to sourcing sustainably for only your espresso products. However, it is well known that you offer many more coffee-containing products. We have started a petition to help raise awareness of the effects that sun-grown coffee bean farms have on the ecosystems surrounding them. The majority of your beans are sourced from these sun-grown farms, which involve cutting down the local tropical rainforest to be replaced by coffee cropland. Are you aware that 2.5 million acres of land in Central America has been destroyed and lost due to the practice of sun-grown coffee bean farms? This land could have been saved had large businesses regarded the effects that their practices have on the Earth’s environment.

In addition, 77 percent of Americans claimed that sustainably is a factor they consider when purchasing food products. This would result in a huge boost in profit for Dunkin Donuts if your company switched its sourcing and publicized the now sustainably sourced product.

Our petition can be found here.

We hope that you consider altering your products for the betterment of the environment and your own company, and wish that you consider the opinions that we and many other consumers find meaningful.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Paige Ritter and Christian Schaaf
