This petition was created to unify voices of students who believe that there should be more courts and time allotted to weekly drop-in volleyball sessions.
Over the past two years, there has been a decline in the number of courts and hours per week dedicated to volleyball. It has been reduced to only one day per week and one court, in contrast with previous years which hosted drop-in volleyball sessions at least thrice a week with two courts. Due to this, interest in the sport has gone down. HOWEVER, with the start of the new academic year, interests seem have been renewed. With 30-40 people being on court 4 at all times, the following issues have surfaced:
- Reduced play time per person
- Reduced play time per person
- Risk of injuries increased: having so many people on one court proved to be hazardous as balls from the game and multiple small groups warming up, resulted in unaware players being hit, usually on the head.
- Tension between teams/players: because of reduced play time per player, arguments start between teams with regards to who gets to play. Some players leave as a result.
- Students not being able to play a drop-in sport due to a lack of sessions.
So upon the encouragement of many frustrated students, this petition was created in hopes to accommodate the needful changes.
Thank you.
