Driving Licence
Taxi drivers solely rely on their driver’s license to produce an income, unlike other citizens who are not affected directly if they lose their license, as they have access to public transport to commute to and from work and still earn an income.
Taxi drivers who lose their license have their income immediately cut off which in turn dramatically affects the wellbeing of themselves and their families, especially if they are the sole bread winner in the family.
The undersigned petitioners therefore ask the Legislative Assembly to:
Increase current demerit points for taxi drivers to double the regular citizen points to minimise the chance of a suspended license which in turn will refrain them from earning an income
OR
Reduce the time of demerit points return from 3 years to 1 year to minimise the chance of suspension
OR
Taxi drivers to not have demerit points apply to their licence, however instead consider doubling the fine incurred by 50%
