We demand the restoration of public drinking water fountains in the city of Liverpool. Until the 1950s Liverpool boasted hundreds of drinking fountains. Today there no fountains left in working order and we consider this is a mistake for a city where the tourist trade is now highly important. Bottled water is expensive and worldwide it is thought 150billion plastic bottles go to waste each year. Liverpool should take a lead in re-instating its historic network of fountains and by installing new fountains in places like Liverpool ONE, Liverpool Arena, The Albert Dock, and the Pier Head. We call on Liverpool City City council to instigate a programme to renovate and maintain currently disused fountains and to install new ones where required.
