Outermost Harbor Marine, located at 83 Seagull Road, is looking for support from the Town of Chatham. We need the town’s help with the following items:

  • Assistance in expediting our dredging project
  • Moving our position on the County’s Dredging schedule to an emergency priority place
  • Economic assistance for the public town-owned channel

The channel leading into Outermost Harbor is a public town-owned channel that serves a large number of Chatham residents, visiting tourists, and Local Emergency Responders. We, OHM, have taken it upon ourselves to try to maintain the channel this past year, but are now at the point where we need your support and assistance.

Outermost Harbor Marine has over 1,000 customers each year that come to use the marina and have been severely affected by the shoaling issues. Our customers come to Chatham for boating, fishing, and beaching. This year their experience has been impaired and some customers are re-thinking Chatham and look at other destinations. Our goal is to keep all of our customers, if we lose customers, the Town of Chatham loses them as well. Chatham doesn’t have enough marine facilities as it is to support our local economy, let alone losing one. Chatham has always, and will always, thrive off of our boating community.

Many of the First Responders in the area use the OHM facilities for safety purposes. Without Outermost, the emergency response times are, and will continue to be, severely lengthened. Those responders include the United States Coast Guard, Chatham Harbor Master, Chatham Fire Department, Chatham Police Department, Chatham Beach Patrol, Tow Boat US, and others.

Many of the restrictions we have faced impede our ability to maintain the channel. We have been fighting an uphill battle with not only the dredging but also when and where we are allowed to work. Without the restrictions and some help from the town we would have a much more effective dredging operation.

We are all in support of having Chatham, the Selectman, and all of the various town departments get behind this petition to make sure the Public Channel in front of Outermost Harbor Marine is kept open. Please assist OHM by relaxing some of the restrictions, expediting processes, changing some priorities for the County Dredge and providing some economic participation.

Again, we have been serving the Chatham community for 60+ years- all we’re asking for is to continue to keep our boating community happy and for them to remain boating in Chatham. We thank you for your support of Outermost Harbor Marine.
