The council has officially approved the plans for our new pool. It feels surreal to say it after so many months of fighting for this project but we actually won. I am going to take a moment to rest before we start keeping a close eye on the construction phase.

This petition is for having a swimming pool built in Donabate/Portrane area.

Our goal is to have a swimming pool on the peninsula, which would be built and operated using energy efficient technologies. The swimming pool will make one of the most popular sports in Ireland accessible to our local community, promoting an active lifestyle and community integration.

Donabate/Portrane population has grown significantly in the last few years. We have 4 schools in the area, that will benefit greatly from having a swimming pool nearby, as well as the rest of the community. Having a swimming pool in the area will create new jobs and promote tourism and sports in the area. The swimming pool will also be easily accessible by nearby communities (Lusk, Rush, Ballyboughal, Old Town, North Swords, Malahide, etc).

This is a long-term project. To getstarted, we need to:

1. Gain local support and obtain enough signatures to approach Fingal County Council

2. Form an action group to bring this project forward.

3. Carry out high-level feasibility analysis and come up with the proposal, including swimming pool drawings and financial estimates.

4. Research funding options

5. Approach Fingal County Council with the documented proposal and signatures of support.

We just hit five hundred signatures and my feet are tired from walking this beat every day. It is heavy work trying to get the council to listen but seeing your names pile up gives me a reason to keep going.

There is such a huge swimming community in Donabate. A pool would enable us to teach our children how to swim safely and give us a much needed facility for our massively growing population. There are 1,200 new homes being built in Donabate. We already have a limited amount of sporting facilities for the population we currently have. A swimming pool is a necessity. Thank you.

Hi there, I am delighted to see this initiative being put forward, I have thought that there should be a swimming pool here since moving to Donabate 2yrs ago. Such a beautiful place but lacking in so many amenities for its growing population

Since moving here from the South Side I have felt very frustrated by the lack of facilities for swimming in the area. Specifically, Swimming training

We assumed the Community Centre had a pool when we bought here, very disappointed to discover it doesn't have one!

I am delighted to see this happening. I really hope we get a pool. I think itvis very important our children learn to swim especially living beside the beach.

Not only for my step daughter but for myself and my partner... We both work in physical and demanding jobs and swimming befits us in an enormous way... But the only draining thing is we have to travel to do this.. But I it was in out local area it would take that bit of stress out of our hectic week!!! X
