The Norfolk Southern Railroad line that runs right through the middle of our little town is the busiest rail line coming out of the Southeast, averaging about 1 train every 20 minutes on the line. For those of us that live and/work in Downtown Duluth this can quickly become an annoyance. The Federal Railroad Administration requires horns be sounded where trains approach public grade crossings. An exception is where a public authority has created a valid “quiet zone". The quiet zone rule went into affect in April of 2004.

The rules on train horn use and quiet zones can be found HERE

More information on the steps involved in establishing a quiet zone can be found HERE

Help make Downtown Duluth more enjoyable for residence and businesses alike by signing this petition to urge the City of Duluth to establish a Railroad Quiet Zone through Downtown.
