Douglas Promenade Skatepark

Build a proper skatepark on the sunken gardens!

This needs to be designed by experienced skaters for all abilities, not the current people having an input

I welcome the investment in a new skatepark, however, a pump track being built at this site will be a white elephant development. The demand for a pump track among the island’s skate community (and many skate communities) isn’t there & instead, a high quality street style skating environment should be created, which there is a lot of demand for (ledges, stair sets etc). We recommend teaming up with an experienced skate construction company to design the site, alongside extensive consultation with the local skate community (who ultimately are the ones who will use and benefit from a final scheme). You only have to look at the popularity of functional skateable street spaces in other cities, such as Barcelona, Copenhagen, Lyon, Paris, Tbilisi and elsewhere, to see the popularity and demand for such a space. You can also reflect on skateboarding’s growing popularity as a result of featuring in the Olympics, which contains street skating as a competition (not a pump track race). Building a street skating park at the site, could capitalise on this growing popularity, as many new young skaters come into the sport. There is the potential this will be a huge & expensive missed opportunity if it becomes a pump track and will go against the desires and ambitions of the local skateboarding community. Please go back to the consultation drawing board and listen to the voices of the people who are part of the island's skating community.

There is an opportunity, probably with very little extra cost in the design, to produce a skatepark facility that would provide for a much wider audience than the current pump track proposed. Given a bit of thought and consultation the facility could be a genuine enhancement to Douglas rather than just a nod to "youth" and another underutilised blot on the town's landscape.

Get this one right! No pump tracks !! open space ,ledges rails, stairs and LIGHTS!!! Exactly what you don't want us hunting for in the streets

A skatepark designer should design the skatepark area

Take advice from the islands skateboarding community on what would be skateable and aesthetically pleasing.

This would really help the skating community

I support the idea to have a hybrid, multi use, skateboard friendly space. The success of the project will be guaranteed with the right amount of input from the grass roots, local community.

Those sunken gardens are made for a skatepark

I believe this park would benefit of being reviewed by skaters

Could not agree more with this sentiment. We need to inspire not only the next generation of kids but show the public the beauty of a creative space showcased in a town centre. This can be achieved by use of different aesthetically pleasing materials in a garden like setting and not just another go round in circles polished concrete skatepark for which the island already has ample amounts of.
