What will be the next piece of our unique heritage to be axed? This is just unbelievable!

As long as it's not cruel to the horses.... This unique example of historic transport needs to be retained and protected.

As a tourist attraction we need to keep the tramway but costs should be shared by Tourism section of the Dept of Developement

I think the horsetrams should remain but the cost should be shared by the whole Island.i.e the Government should take the service over.

We love visiting the island and always travel on the trams when we're over there. It is one of our main drivers for visiting and this news is heartbreaking. The children will be so very disappointed when we tell them as are we.

This is the thin end of the wedge: without the horse tram to feed the electric railway, user numbers will dwindle and it too will be axed within the next decade. I will do everything within my power to fight for the retention of the horse trams and to end the political careers of those arguing for its demise.

Why are so many Manx Traditions/culture being eroded? We need to keep our Manx History, and Traditions alive , or all hope lost. Rethink the finances, and operation, contributions from other Government area,s.. Where was communication. Don't blame Douglas Corp. as they have been struggling with the costings, but they could have gone about this in a much better way , discussing options .

The Horse Trams are an iconic part of the Isle of Man and are used in most images to promote the IOM. It is our heritage and should not be the decision of Government, it should be a public vote.

Unique service which must be preserved.

I agree the Douglas ratepayers should not be responsible and that alternative support either from Government or MNH should be sought to preserve the Isle of Man's heritage. Perhaps reduced operating times and days could maximise the number of people who use this service? Just scrapping the horse trams without public consultation is not the answer and just leads to unnecessary animosity towards local authority. I hope a compromise can be found.

This is a fantastic advert for the Island to us tourists. Last year when I visited people got on it for just a few stops, why because they thought they would miss out if they didn't.

I return to the Island every summer to visit family (my father was from Douglas) and every year make a conscious effort to have a ride or two on the horse trams - there is little enough for visitors without taking away one of the few attractions left
