Douglas Horse Tramway To Be Scrapped - Manx Residents Petition

Enjoyed growing up going on these at summer and my son enjoys them now too would hate to see them go x

I am yet to meet a Manx person who agrees with the decision to scrap the horse trams. Surely Douglas council who are elected to represent the views of the public should have consulted with the public. If this goes ahead perhaps the Douglas residents will make their feelings known at the next council elections.

We should be proud of our heritage an keep it alive. As with several other countries, in particular the British isles there is a serious risk that we will lose our individuality and just a carbon copy of everywhere else. I love our island but I'm becoming increasingly saddened by the decisions our government keep making. It feels like they want to make us just another sad, grey, faceless place that doesn't work or care for its people but lines the pockets of those in power

This is a massive part of our heritage do not let it slip away !

Will the Laxey Wheel be next ? And then perhaps Tynwald Day as a national holiday also costs too much......?

Incomprehensible. Another fine piece of our heritage discarded as unworthy. The Council can find funds to send out 3 people in a van on Sunday's collecting rubbish (I guess being paid overtime)...........fine in such as TT week. Come on Douglas Borough Council get your priorities right. Those who have voted for this should be named and hang their heads in shame.

I think the horse trams should be saved but moved away from the traffic- it's a shame that Douglas corporation has to pay for the surely there should be a central fund for heritage?

We r 3generation s of visitors to the IOM . its always felt like a 2nd home. . In fact my brother moved there and now has grand kids there. The horse trams are an important feature of Douglas and they wd be missed terribly.

Our island heritage is unique and as such should be protected and treasured for future generations to enjoy

A total disgrace, they are merely custodians of the horse trams & have no right to do this whatsoever.

As a visitor and tourist to Isle Of Man yearly one of the main attractions for us is that you are different from other places, steeped in tradition offering various and exciting steps back in time. Whilst the wellbeing of the horses would be my no1. priority in all these situations, I would say as a tourist from over please reconsider the removal the trams if this is only to improve your road network and reduce annual overheads for maintenance and keep for the tradition, island values and to set you apart from the rest, lose your traditions and you will become another destination without any attraction.

This is very shortsighted. The cost of preservation should be shared accross island with an equitable rates system. Shame on this government if this is allowed to happen. Who will be accountable for the waste of money already spent on new tracks? Name and shame !
