I am Manx, not a tourist. I visit the island to see relatives.
With public determination, the horse trams will be saved. I have many friends who love the island. I will be asking them all to sign this petition.

Terrible decision! The horse trams were the key reason why our family love the Isle of Man for our summer holidays. Without them we will have to find somewhere else.

a tragic decion. no doubt redundancy of staff and relocation and goming of horses will cost more than they loose at the moment! whilst i appreciate the financial burden on the council and the need for cuts - reducing the tourist demand of your island is a downward spiral. we where plannign a vist this summer for the 140th aniversay but i shall be forced to cancel now as my wife only allowed the holiday if we could ride the horse trams. offer the system foc to a volunteer run group to keep this vital tourist pull alive.

Whilst not widely used by locals, visitors to the Island (Yes we still have them.) do use them. Virtually any recent TV programme (Holiday of my lifetime to name but one) filmed on the Island takes a ride on the horse trams effectively advertising what fantastic modes of transport the Island still has. If the horse trams are stopped due to lack of funds, what will be next? Will Government be forced to close the electric trams and the steam railway despite them having run for over 100 years??? Is it not time that our government woke up and realised that we the local populace would like to see our heritage retained and maintained for future generations.

Scrapping this system is crazy, I was planning my week long visit to the island for the 140th aniversary, but I will now be going somewhere else!

A well-renown and vital cog in the tourism machinery of Douglas and the Island; it would be a tragedy, if this iconic piece of Manx heritage was to be lost forever...
