Final supporters
This petition is for dedicated animal activists to show support for The Body Shop's alternatives to animal testing. Each year more than 100 million animals are killed in laboratories for scientific purposes. When you sign this petition you will be part of a movement to put an end to the inhumane treatment of animals around the world.
Did you know that no experiment is illegal? No matter how cruel or irrelevant to the original purpose all experiments are legal, because of this animals are poisoned, burned, crippled, and abused in many other ways. Many of the animals used in these experiments are not counted in official statistics and therefore receive no protection under the Animal Welfare Act.
Some cosmetic tests performed:
- Skin and eye irritation tests: Chemicals are rubbed onto shaved skin or dripped into eyes of restrained animals without pain relief
- Repeated force-feeding: Studies that last weeks or months to look for signs of illness or health hazards in ingredients
- Lethal dose: animals are forced to swallow large amounts of test chemicals to determine the amount of dosage that causes death.
At the end of these experimentations animals are killed by asphyxiation, neck-breaking or decapitation.
How does The Body Shop stay cruelty free?
The Body Shop does not conduct tests on animals. They also source from suppliers who do not test their ingredients on animals. They are audited on a regular basis and are fully compliant with the Humane Cosmetics Standards.
