Please sign this if you haven't already....paying over $30,000 per TRIMESTER should invariably include viable on campus study rooms, especially for upper semester students who are taking on a much more strenuous course load as compared to the 1st semester students they are being allocated for. As a student in a doctorate program, I expect this as a minimum for my education and I'm repulsed that it has come down to this.

I agree with everything but I do have another ideal input. I feel the purpose of the study rooms is mainly for people that live off campus and have long breaks between classes and need a place to study. I don't see how students who already live on campus need these spaces this badly, their apartments are right around the corner. Maybe a better short term solution would've been to allow a certain building for 1st and vet prep and the rest exclusively for 2nd-7th, only until they find better study areas.

I love our school but it has the worst study spaces/condition of any school I have ever attended! It is ridiculous since they know and expect us to develop 6+ hours study habits . I know Ross can do better with our money.

There has to be a better solution to people camping out in the dorm study rooms, than banning the majority of the student population.

The only other designated study rooms on Ross campus are the two in the LATF and the two in the LRC. The ones in the LATF are commonly closed due to meetings. The ones in the LRC are commonly closed due to small tutor sessions AND are closed throughout exam times. When these study rooms are not closed for meetings or tests or small tutor sessions, they quickly fill up by students eager to study together. The fact that these study areas are taken so quickly indicates that there are not enough group study areas. If Ross wants to encourage students to learn together and talk to each other, which almost every professor tells us is helpful to learning, they have got to allow us to use the only study rooms that are available consistently. I am sure this ban was proposed by someone who has never experienced the stress of vet school and has certainly never tried to find a study room on Ross campus

I currently do not personally use the study rooms as I pay a pretty penny to have the privilege of my own study space in my apartment now. Regardless I fully support this argument; It is eloquently worded and provides a very sound premise. On top of the numerous reasons that the original writing provided, I can attest to how hard it is to find housing with a study space that is comfortable and quiet. As a first semester student I took full advantage of the study rooms at the dorms and there were times in semesters following that when the electric or internet was out for a lengthy amount of time and I had nothing other than those very study rooms to utilize. I don't think it is fair to revoke the rights of upper semesters in the dorm study rooms as a whole, as study space on campus is not always adequate and the firm beliefe that not only upper semesters "camp out" in the rooms.

My concern with this rule, is it sets up an ''us vs them" mentality on our campus. I realize we already have divides between the semesters, and we won't always get along. However, group-friendly AC'ed study space is a scarce resource, and I feel this will cause more of a rift than bring benefit.

Might I also suggest banning these rooms from 2nd-7th semester students AFTER building more suitable study locations for all students. There is already a limited amount of space, perhaps we can consider the option of only allowing 1st semester and VP in the dorm study halls once we have additional study spaces to accommodate all of the currnent student population.

As an upper semester student, if allowed to use this space, I won't hog it for unreasonable amounts of time. Plus, I've always been fine with anybody joining me in the study space, especially because group studying is super helpful.

I know that I've done better in my courses because I've had access to the student dorms to study for exams. I cannot study at my house because it is often too hot and I do not have a comfortable workspace. I cannot study in the majority of the other spaces on campus because it is always freezing (to the point where I have actually come to the library with a sleeping bag just so I could stay warm enough to concentrate). I like the dorm study rooms because they offer the ability to control temperature regulation and host group study sessions. During this time, I've met many students in lower semesters and have been able to help them when I hear them struggling with material that I have already learned. I know I'm in 7th so this will only be applicable to me for a short while longer but if there are rooms that aren't being used because 1st/VP is on an "off week" between exams and then the rest of us are banned from them when we need them, then I find this to be horribly unfair.

I used the study rooms in 7th semester more than when I was in any other semester. It helped me fit in what little studying time I had in 7th between checking on my patients. I went with a group of friends and we helped each other study and go over our surgical procedures.

I am in Vet Prep and I think we should all be allowed to use this, it also allows for 1st/VP to build connections with 2-7th, something that I think is extremely important with development of professional skills for down the road.

There isn't enough group study space in general, this gives all of us another option. I do agree camping out isnt the best way to go about this but banning uppers completely isnt fair either. Let's just all be grown ups and learn to share please :)

Just tell people during finals they can't sleep there. Have people patrolling to kick them out if they're there for more than 24 hours straight.

I believe there is actually too much silent study space in proportion to the amount of study space available to us. The dorms crate an option where we can talk/discuss, eat, and have use of a white board all to ourselves. PLEASE reconsider banning all of us because these open rooms have been a crucial part of my studying for now 2.5 years.
