We are a group of parents that are extremely concerned about the outdoor recreational area of the school and with the lack of response from the responsible parties.
The main issue is that the recreational area was built below the street level making it a perfect place for a lagoon when it rains since it has no drainage. We all saw this coming since day one. But why didn't the constructor, the building owner, school owner or the City of Doral saw it coming?
We spent most of the 2016-2017 school year without a park for our children waiting on permits. And after that with the heavy rain and no drains the grass was completely ruined and there was only soil and rocks left. And after a long vacation season we returned to the school to a very exiting artificial turf. But with the heavy rain and no drains everything got destroyed before it even was fully installed.
First of all we need to understand the real problem in order to fix it and make it right once and for all. We are no experts on the field but we have talked to a few construction experts and they all have come to the same conclusion:
Option 1:
1- The area needs to be properly filled
2- Install a proper drainage system
3- Install the artificial turf
Option 2:
1-Install water pumps to be able to drain the water
2- Install the artificial turf
Option 2 is the most recommended one due to timing.
As you know children need outdoor activities for their wellbeing. And this is all we are asking. We all pay our taxes and deserve a school with a proper outdoor area for our children to play and be active!
We are demanding an immediate resolution along with a timeline. This issue has been going on since the opening of the school and is now in critical conditions. We have requested many times a solution to this problem with no formal response. This lagoon is not only affecting the recreation of our children but is also a mosquito paradise and we are concerned about a Denge and/or Zika epidemic in the school.
We hope that our children will be able to play and have PE outside by the end of this calendar year at the most. If we don’t receive a prompt response and appropriate resolution we will be forced to go to other authorities.
We hope you give this matter the priority it deserves.
Sincerely,
A group of concerned parents for our children wellbeing.
