Don't Cut Our Right To JUSTICE is a campaign created in retaliation to proposed cuts to vital Legal-Aid services by the Justice Secretary Kenneth Clarke. Under the Justice Secretarys proposal, legal-aid would become available only to those who are in danger of losing their life, liberty or property. This could result in half a million people being left unheard in court. The goverment want to cut legal-aid costs by £350 million within the next four years. Many justice orientated groups have expressed massive concern over the proposed cuts, including The Bar Council who believe that as a direct result of the cuts 'DIY' type cases in which people represent themselves in court will clog up the system and actually cost the goverment more money because of this. Divorce cases, medical negligence, employment and personal injury claims are a few of the instances where legal-aid services will be cut. Under the current system, a person with assests worth less that £8,000 would recieve legal-aid services, and those people with assests worth less than £3,000 would not be expected to contribute finacially to their legal process. If the Justice Secretaries proposals succeed, people with more than £1,000 worth of assests would expect to contribute atleast £100 toward the cost of their legal costs. Stand up for your right to be heard in court and join our petition. DON'T CUT OUR RIGHT TO JUSTICE.
