As a former PF billet and the mother to 3 young girls I have to share my concern regarding the loss of this team. It will hurt our community and rural girls hockey! Please reconsider this decision

The reasoning behind dropping this team is very weak! Our team provides a location for young ladies from many centres in SE Sask. to play at an advanced level. Our young ladies need this team, and we need this team.

This is a major slap in the face for everyone involved with Prairie Fire hockey as well to girls hockey in general. Sask Hockey should be ashamed of the way they have handled this situation.

My Kookum plays goal with the Melville Prairie Fire and last summer after the league decided that only people who are from Saskatoon can play on the elite level female teams. So with a lot of apprehension her and her mom went looking for a team that would fit her needs. After meeting with coaches and other team staff, the school and the billets, they chose Melville as the best team which met her hockey and school goals with an incredible welcoming family for her billet. I watched her earlier in the season at a tournament in Portage La Prairie MB and you could see how much she had matured in a short time, how much she enjoyed being a part of the team, and how relieved that her mom was that her daughter was in very good hands. I'm not sure what politics was involved in deciding on the fate of the Prairie Fire but surely all zones except Regina and Saskatoon are subject to being short of hometown players in any given year. I don't see why they can't be an option for players from other zones an opportunity to play at the elite level. It worked very well for my Kookum!!!

Once again the big Cities are making decisions with zero regard for the smaller communities. This needs changing.

We need to keep promoting female hockey, not having less teams so girls have to move further away from home or not play at all. Especially for the rural girls who already have rules that have them travelling many miles already!
