Because the waters of Candlewood Lake are common and shared by the property owners of the five surrounding towns (stake holders), it is inappropriate for any actions or treatments, such as the large scale chemical use proposed by New Fairfield, to be deployed without the agreement of each stake holder.
In addition, the DEEP should be in agreement (an additional stake holder) in that they are responsible for, and represent, the safety and well being of Candlewood Lake and the CT state general public that also access the lake, .
Further, the "Carp Program" was implemented to combat milfoil growth after previously being agreed upon by all the stake holders. The impact of the proposed large scale release of chemicals into the lake, on the Carp Program, is an unknown and may result in reducing the effectiveness of the effort.
The DEEP should disallow the New Fairfield proposal to use herbicides and algaecides in Candlewood Lake.

The lack of ecological stewardship is stunning. Please allow the CLA to fulfill its mission without the political motivated interference of a few.

I am stunned to learn that any of the towns around our lake can act unilaterally in this matter. We cannot allow this to happen.

The application of herbicides is in conflict with and detrimental to the grass carp program that was collaboratively initiated by the 5 Candlewood Towns, the DEEP and First Light, Poison should be an absolute last resort option and is ill conceived when a rational cost effective multi-year management plan is underway. Not to mention having our kids swim in poison.

Although The Lake is in need of a lot of help, algecides and herbicides are not the answer. I wish I knew what is. I hope something can be done, the last time I swam in the lake I came out smelling like mold.

These chemicals are harmful to humans who recreate in the lake. As a lake resident and doctor, this is a very bad idea.
