To Governor Ayotte: [Updated on November 4, 2025]

Last term, despite 1,145 names being sent to Governor Ayotte to veto HB 577, it was passed. HB 577 now allows people in single family neighborhoods to add two detached units for rental purposes.

This basically destroyed single family zoning. But now some legislators want to allow COMMERCIAL buildings in your neighborhood as well!

Reps. Joe Alexander (R-Goffstown) and Joe Sweeney (R-Salem) are at it again, in league with AFP-NH on this.

Please send them your objections to this NOW.

We the undersigned believe that current House and Senate committees have been purposely set up in such a way in order to rubber-stamp more than a dozen bills regarding zoning and local control. Proponents are using the alleged "housing crisis" as an excuse to rip away local control. The members of these committees are often the bills' very sponsors. This is nothing more than taxpayer-funded lobbying.

These bills are being rushed through committees and then sent to Senate and House floor 'voice votes', thus enabling their passage without much discussion by legislators or affording legislators an understanding as to the possible unintended consequences. Many of the committee members have shown themselves to be not understanding of the bills' content, and this is unacceptable.

We maintain that most of these Housing bills are NOT needed, because municipalities are able to pass similar zoning ordinances on their own through the current warrant article process.

We maintain that these Housing bills will NOT effectively help the cost or supply of housing and in fact, may have the opposite effect just as has happened in California and elsewhere.

We maintain that these Housing bills will simply destroy local control and that the end goal of their sponsors is to eradicate ALL ZONING including SINGLE FAMILY ZONING, throughout NH.

Governor Ayotte, while you have prioritized addressing the state's housing shortage, and you have advocated for streamlining the approval process for housing developments and support public-private partnerships to increase affordable housing options, you also emphasized the importance of local decision-making in zoning policies.

This petition serves to remind you of the importance of local decision-making in zoning policies.

It is with consideration of the above facts we respectively request that you VETO these bills for the benefit of ALL NH's citizens.

Ridiculous. Small towns in NH are being ruined by these people in concord who dont even live here. ENOUGH.

Totally against this. My property value is already dropping because of the new apartments and this is just gonna make it worse.
