I understand the city trying to get extra money, but when it comes to some things that are old and shouldnt be changed....money shouldnt come between traditions. In fact those should be the things money is used to PROTECT them. Not push them out.

When My ex and I separated and I moved to Waikiki for work, I had nothing under my name and I was really struggling with all the changes in my life. But I knew that I needed to put my mind and energy into something practical and something I could love. Learning to surf is not about just doing something. It’s about the community that came with it. I was alone and new to the area. And I was welcomed into the beachboy community with open arms. I never paid them for a lesson but they showed so much aloha to me and my boys. When I was out in the water. They never hesitated to give me pointers or a good push so i could catch a wave. The Beach Boys will always be my Ohana. They are my brothers and I always have an awesome conversation with them during my lunch breaks. But here’s the thing. None of them knew of my struggles. None of them knew what I was going through. Before they even understood how hard my life was at that time, they made sure to put a smile on my face. I see some sick things about them and how people say they treat women. But I am a woman. And I believe I am a decent looking one. But they never hit on me or made me feel like meat. They treated me like a sister and always gave me so much respect. Their love for surfing is a gift to us all. And people from around the world know them for their spirit. Praying for you all.
