How can the city allow a scuba diving company who has NEVER rented 1 surfboard, done 1 surfing lesson, given 1 canoe ride, and the owner, in his own words, has stepped foot on Waikiki beach only 1 time since he’s moved to Hawaii, be allowed to not only bid for a beachboy stand, but now to be able to operate 2 stands???

This is the culture the Aloha Spirit given to the Hawaiian's. The Beachboys are the ambassadors of Aloha showing the island culture to the visitors from the birth place of surfing. No more Beachboys - No more Aloha.

Shady politics here. Another local business carrying on a beautiful tradition destroyed by bad government and it’s misguided, short sighted greed. Not much of Waikiki remains if we lose the real Beach Boys.

You can’t go to school to be a Beachboy. You have to earn it! The Beachboys have a saying about some one who teaches surfing or does any type of (commercial activities) when the surf, water quality, weather, lack of knowledge, jellyfish etc... are bad. We call it
( BLOOD MONEY ) now it
Looks like that’s what the city and this administration is looking for! The
Beachboys are not about making a killing! They are about not killing our locals, visitors and our life style. Anyone can offer a lot of money but at what cost!!! Say no to BLOOD MONEY! Keep the Beachboys traditions!

My uncle is Hawaiian. Grew up there and has been a beach boy teaching at the stands forever. Taking away the true culture and heritage is disgraceful just to replace it with some fancy guys spot that doesn’t know what he’s doing or talking about. Keep The Beach Boys in business!

I am only 14 but this is where I grew up!! There is no better place then for us kids to run around Waikiki beach, surf, sand slide, hide & seek in surf racks, surf until dark, while Dad giving Canoe rides/lessons!!! our family has done this for MANY GENERATIONS. Don’t let others take this away for our kids someday

My husband had work at Waikiki beach for over 30 years, people from the mainland come look for him to give their kids lessons. You can’t take this away from them, it’s their lively hood

People come from all over the world to Waikiki Beach to see real beach boys. They dont want to come to see pool attendants and big corporations on a beach that is known for old traditions. Star Beach Boys have been the for generations and always took care of the Beach boys.

Haven’t outsiders from the mainland taken enough already?, this is cultural appropriation, greed and government indifference at its worst. Like the mom and pop corner stores that are all almost gone, don’t let the iconic beachboy Service be replaced with generic cabana boys. This ain’t Florida. The Waikiki Beachboys invented tourism, we owe them a place in Waikiki for perpetuity. The real tragedy is this new owner has no idea why he shouldn’t be there...He has no kuleana
