A local from Maui now living on the mainland, I hate to see local-style businesses be taken over because of money. Yes, money is fantastic. I live right at the heart in the home of Wal-Mart home office alongside some of the largest corporations in the continental United States. My question is what happened to the aloha spirit, what happened to ohana. Revenue from businesses such as Dive Oahu that are focused upon formalities such as uniforms and uninteresting, almost machine like interactions, is not what Oahu and the rest of Hawaii is about. We must remember that we have an identity and culture to uphold. Tourism is not in the soul of the aina, but in the eyes of business men and women looking to make a buck. Save the beachboys and the tradition based upon a laid-back lifestyle that Hawaii is known for because let’s be real, what sets apart mainstream business to the beachboys is why people go in the first place. Mahalo.

My boyfriend and I have both gone to The Beach Boys on our vacations and been repeat customers. We’ve always been treated well and would be disappointed to see such an extreme change. We would not be returning to that company if they do not keep the current employees. I have no cares in the world if the instructors smoke marijuana. Shouldn’t be a rule for employment for a SURF instructor. Give me a break. Keep The Beach Boys- keep it local. New owner is not even a surfer.

Leave our Beachboys alone! Rhey are a huge part of what is good about Waikiki! And there is not much that is good about it, now that our City and State has turned it into a concrete Tourist trap made up of concrete. Smh!
