We all don't get our way just because we feel like it. Don't ruin it for everyone just because this will make it convenient for a few individuals. Kayaks are not feeding the havasu economy. Havasu is a boating town, kayakers are very much welcomed, but please don't close a heavily boat crowded area for a few kayakers. I don't mean to be selfish in saying this, but when it's 110 degrees out, you will be boating, not kayaking and not wanting to slow down for some stupid new rule. Thanks -Eric

as an avid paddler myself, the wife & I paddleboard Crystal Beach to Misquite Bay weekly all year long and have never once had a run in with a ski boat. The boaters usually wave and are friendly...not sure why people think power boats and paddle vessels can't coexist???

Unfortunately concentrated numbers of Power Boaters & Skiers go into this area and routinely violate Federal and State Safety and Navigation Laws such as Skiing without an Observer, excessive speed too close to paddlecraft (who always have the legal right-of-way over powercraft), operate in reckless and negligent manner, not yielding the right-of-way to manually propelled boats to the point of "assault", operating under the influence, on and on. This is all on record.
Blaming this "modification of 1/2 mile of backwater refuge canoe and kayak waterways trail" on Paddlers is RIDICULOUS. No paddler ever assaulted a power boat.

We do not know ONE PADDLER (kayak, SUP, Canoe) that asked for "exclusive use" - just to be safely let through this quiet backwater without threat and physical assault. Why don't the guilty parties speak up and apologize and admit it?

This area is a safe place for water skiers as it is protected from the big power boats - Can it not be shared by all users?

Absolutely, it is ridiculous to destroy Habitat and be in fear of your life in quiet Refuge backwaters designated to protect and preserve birds and wildlife - oh, and don't forget the human life.

This area is a quiet backwater of the Havasu National Wildlife Refuge NOT the other 2 open channels entering the entire open Colorado River 30+ miles heading upstream, and the entire wide open Lake for 20 miles downstream. That is the point. This area is designated Refuge and IS quiet backwaters!

In addition to my comment on other erroneous facts being presented in this petition: there is NOT another option for "Paddlecraft/Kayakers" to travel the 4 mile waterways trail from Castle Rock to Mesquite Bay. This is a "downstream trip" through quiet backwaters, near-shore, in the Havasu National Wildlife Refuge. On the other hand: anyone with a power boat can travel any direction and access areas in a short time. This is in a Wildlife Refuge. Your children would benefit from a trip by canoe or kayak in this area to enjoy the birds and nature. You would be ENFURIATED if they were terrorized and run down as our children have been.

This petition is based on erroneous "facts" This area is NOT safe for all users. There are birds nesting in this area whose Habitat is being destroyed especially by the newer "Wake Boats". Excessively large wakes in this shallow area wreak havoc on the nesting birds. The Endangered Yuma Clapper Rail's Natural Habitat is flooded by the wakes and hatchlings are drowned; Grebes and Coots nests are either tipped over or destroyed. Being verbally threatened and repeatedly told by skiers to "Leave; this is our area" "You don't belong here" “You need to LEAVE NOW” while grandmothers, great grandmothers and children are desperately attempting to paddle against current to avoid being run down repeatedly by aggressive ski boaters, sprayed by skiers, “waked” and dumped out by speeding ski boats. Groups of speeding power craft separating to wake paddle craft from both sides, passing fast and close. These were not "isolated events" they were routine. Blatantly scaring and intimidating old lady paddlers and children certainly did not show any desire to "Share The Lake". Capt. Bruce
