Don't Fence Our Field

At the end of our street, Macdonald Road, Benwell, Newcastle Upon Tyne, there is a large field that is used all year round by the local community.
Sometime before Christmas 2013, Newcastle Council decided to "gift" the ownership of the land to Atkinson Road School nest to the field. We are assuming that through budget cuts, the Council no longer have the funds to maintain the field (ie, cut the grass).
Atkinson Road School have applied for planning permission to erect a high fence all around the perimeter of the field with lockable gates, making it for the sole use of the school.
We would like to object and block the building of the fence for some of the following reasons (im sure many people would have many other reasons):
The school have already used the field for decades, as has everyone else.
The views from the road, over the field down to the river and across to gateshead and beyond would be obliterated
An alleyway would be created along the existing footpath and fence, having the possibility of attracting anti-social behavior and an intimidating place to walk.
The school will only use the field for approximately half the year.
Should anything happen to the school, will the land be returned to the community or sold for development
The field falls within the boundary of The Greater High Cross Selective Licence Scheme, an initiative run by Newcastle Council. The objectives of the scheme include; ensuring that the local area is a more attractive place to live, reducing anti-social behaviour, and encouraging responsible residents to stay
