! Don’t deport Samy Mohamed (stay of removal.)
!!Samy is a community role model, devoted husband, and loving father, who has been living in and contributing to the US for the past 16 years. Originally from Alexandria, Samy left home to work on a cargo ship crew. In 1999, he married his first wife, Elizabeth, a US citizen who he met in New York, and was soon approved for permanent residence. However, in 2002 while installing windows, Samy slipped off of his ladder and broke his back. He was paralyzed from the waist down, and will need to use a wheelchair for the rest of his life. After the accident, Samy and Elizabeth divorced, and Samy relocated to Boston to be closer to friends. In the midst of this turmoil, he missed his appointment with USCIS for his green card. !
Samy attempted to regularize his status in 2005, when he married his longtime friend, Souad. They live together in Swampscott, Massachusetts with their daughter Sara. However, his greencard petition was denied when he was unable to contact his ex-wife, Elizabeth, to provide adequate proof of their relationship. !
Samy got a deportation order in 2012. At that time, he successfully won a Stay of Removal. He re-filed his stay of removal this around the first week of May 2015, just a week later. !
Samy has the support of community and religious leaders, physicians and other health
professionals, and many friends and relatives. Not only has he built a loving and united family – he has built community. He is a co-founder of the Egyptian Association of Boston and is a voice of wisdom and experience for the younger folks around him. If he is deported, it would not only tear his family apart – it would put his health and safety at risk. Mr. Mohamed is from a humble background in Alexandria, Egypt. His hometown is generally not wheelchair accessible and he would not have access to adequate healthcare services or facilities. !
Samy must be allowed to reapply for his stay of removal. Please grant Samy Mohamed a stay of removal and allow him the opportunity to regularize his status in the United States. We need him here!
